AUDUBON NEWS

Al C. Phelps died at his home in
this city yesterday (Thursday ) after
noon, of diabetes, after a painful illness
of several years, aged sixty-seven
years. The deceased was born in
Medina county, Ohio, March 10, 1839.
Leaving Ohio in 1850, he came west
to Cedar Rapids and from there to
Atlantic in 1874. He was married
that same year in Cedar Rapids to
Miss Sarra Usher. He was a soldier
in the Civil War serving three years
in the 20th Iowa. To him and his
wife, seven children were born, two
of whom are dead, the living ones
being Mrs. Florence Trammer, Mrs.
Gertrude Whitcomb and Ernest,
Alvan and. Ren Phelps. In all his
relations in life, he did his duty and
was an honest, upright and patriotic
citizen whose death many warm
friends will deeply regret. The funeral
services will occur on Sunday
afternoon at three o'clock from the
Congregational church, Rev. Henderson
officiating.--Atlantic Democrat.
