Page 1, Column 3WM. GUTTENFELDER DIES HERE AFTER ILLNESS THURSDAY
William Guttenfelder, 71, well known Cass county farmer, and a native of Schwartslandorf, Bavaria, died Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Atlantic hospital. He had been ill only eight days.
Born February 12, 1868, in Bavaria, he came to this country with his father, Adam Guttenfelder, when he was only 14 years old. His parents settled in Guthrie county for a short time, and later moved to Cass county, where Mr. Guttenfelder spent his life, in and around Atlantic. He had made his home with a sister, Mrs. Eva Brix, in Atlantic, the last seven years.
He was married Jan. 6, 1897, to Maude Iebsen, who preceded him in death Sept. 17, 1928. He is survived by two sons, Walter Guttenfelder of Durant and Ray Guttenfelder of Atlantic; six grandchildren; two brothers, Conrad W. Guttenfelder of Atlantic and John Guttenfelder of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Mrs. Brix, of Atlantic.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church in Atlantic, the Rev. Theodore Baur officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic cemetery.
The body will be taken from the Roland, Peacock & Baxter funeral home to the home of his son, Ray Guttenfelder, where it will lie in state until the funeral hour.
