Marie Wardrip Dies Saturday

Mrs. Marie Wardrip, 66, wife of Porter D. Wardrip of Lewis, died at 9:20 a.m. Saturday at the Cass County Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Wardrip was born north of Atlantic Jan. 28, 1911, the daughter of Sheldon Lafe and Effa Geneva Harris Smith. She was graduated from Atlantic High School in 1929, and married Porter Wardrip Jan. 1, 1935. She was a member of the Lewis United Congregational Methodist Church, the VFW and Legion auxiliaries and had been employed at the Gibson Discount Center for eight years until 1976. She was a resident of Cass County her entire life.

Surviving are her husband, Porter of Lewis; a daughter, Mrs. John (Dixie Lee) Mitchell of Vine Grove, Ky., four grandchildren, Cindy, Chris, Todd and Mark Doyle Mitchell; a sister, Mrs. Arlin (Margaret) Moller of Atlantic; a brother, Delbert Smith of Omaha; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda, in 1962 and her parents.

The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lewis United Congregational Methodist Church, with the Rev. Vernon Rushing officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery at Lewis.

The family will meet friends and relatives at the Roland Funeral Home from 7:30-8:30 tonight.
