Donald Acker Killed In Tractor Upset

Donald Marvyn Acker, 27, farmer living south of Wiota, was killed Friday afternoon about 3 P. M. in a tractor accident. He was mowing weeds along the road when the tractor overturned in a ditch pinning him underneath the machine. When found by John Jipsen, a neighbor, about five minutes later, he was dead from suffocation. The steering wheel of the tractor hit his abdomen, pinning him to ground. Mr. Acker was going north on County K along the edge of the road, with the sicklebar of his mower droped [dropped] over the grade, when the accident occurred.

He was the son of A. M. and Joy Wissler Acker and was born Dec. 21, 1924, on the farm where he had lived all his life. He graduated from the Wiota high school in 1942 and on Oct. 3, 1948 he was married to Marjorie Havens Brown at St. Joseph, Mo. He was a member of the Wiota Methodist church.

Surviving besides his wife are three small children, Tamara, Allan, and Colleen; one sister, Mrs. Lester Hancock of Boston, Mass., and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Acker of Wiota.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Roland funeral home in Atlantic with the Rev. M. D. Summerbell of Greenfield and Cal Lindeman of Lyman officialing [officiating]. Interment was in the Atlantic cemetery.
