October 7, 1986Clarence Acker Dies In Omaha; Rites Thursday
Clarence S. Acker, 78, a resident of 404 Laurel, died Monday afternoon in Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Mr. Acker, a retired farmer, was active in 4-H for a number of years, serving as a club leader for 14 years. He was also a committee member of the Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Service for a number of years.
The son of Thaddeus and Ida Elizabeth Noyer Acker, he was born in Grove Township Dec. 28, 1907, and attended the Atlantic High School. His marriage to Alvina Ortgies took place in Omaha Dec. 10, 1932, and they farmed until retiring in 1975 and moving to Atlantic.
Mr. Acker was a member of the United Church of Christ, as 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, a member of the Farm Bureau and served with the National Guard for three years.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Leland Acker and Clair Acker, both of Atlantic; four daughters, Mrs. Duane (Lois) Weppler of Camdenton, Mo., Mrs. John (Dorothy) Manders of Indianola, Mrs. David (Joyce) Hart of Atlantic and Mrs. Jim (Linda) Miller of Greenfield; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leroy Acker of Atlantic and Clifton Acker of Camdenton, Mo.; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arleigh and Clayton Acker; and a sister, Abbey Kitchen.
