Obituary.

The funeral services for the late Mrs. T. G. Smith, held at the Buck Creek church at one o’clock on the afternoon of Saturday, February 17th, were attended by a large concourse of people. L. F. Starr, who was well known in the Buck Creek vicinity, studied for the ministry at Battle Creek, and for three years traveled in the service of the Savior, and who is now located at Stuart, and is president of the board of control of the sanitarium at Des Moines, Iowa, delivered the funeral address. Rev. Harwood, pastor of the Marne M. E. church, opened and closed in a touching tribute to the deceased. Mrs. Smith was held in high esteem in the vicinity where she lived. All knew her as a model home-keeper, always pleasant and agreeable and ever seeing the bright side of life. She was a good woman and will be greatly missed by the world which knew her. The floral tributes were from near and distant friends and were profuse and beautiful.

Aldah A. Franklin was born in Johnson county, Iowa, on the 24th of November, 1853, and when sixteen years of age, she, with her mother, three sisters and three brothers removed to Cass county where she spent her life since. On the 7th of June, 1874, she was united in marriage to Thomas G. Smith. To this union nine children were born, two of whom died in infancy and seven of whom are left with the bereaved husband, three sisters and three brothers, to mourn the loss of a faithful wife, devoted mother and loving sister.

When twenty years of age she gave her heart to Christ and since has lived a consistent, Christian life, showing well by an exemplary life a true faith in her Master. Her brothers, Lafe Franklin of Creston, William Franklin of Greenfield and Sterling Franklin of this city and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Douglas, of this city, were present at the funeral services. Mrs. Robie Person of Eaton, Colo., and Mrs. Mary Huffman of Iowa City, her other sisters, were unable to be present. Of the children the eldest daughter has for the past three years been a licensed deaconess in the M. E. church, being located at Denver, and was working as visiting deaconess when summoned to the last call of her mother. The second daughter married Roy Herbert, of this county. The five sons, all of whom were at the home fireside when their mother passed away, are of high moral attainments and studious habits.

Mrs. Smith was a good woman and the children and husband, who with her brothers and sisters mourn her death, have a heritage more precious than aught else could be – the memory of her good works and life among them.
