Services for Lloyd Christensen was held November 28, 1997 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa with Rev. Ron Bamett officiating.
Music was provided by Steve Lamb as organist.
Pallbearers were Denny Simms, Ty Theulen, Daniel Schoenthal, Michael Anderson, Earl Guttenfelder and Henry Schoenthal.
Lloyd Valdemar Christensen was born in Benton township of Cass County Iowa on October 29, 1917 the son of Chris and Anna Ingeborg Nielsen Christensen. He grew up in the Atlantic area where he attended schools. After his formal schooling he worked for Youngs Furniture in Atlantic.
He was married to Claribel Goodwin at Kansas City in 1939. They lived in Atlantic, and Lloyd entered the United States Army during WWII. He served in Europe under General Patton and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After service he returned to Atlantic and worked in the furniture store before starting his own business, Christensen Floor Covering and Draperies. His wife Claribel preceded him in death in 1978. On October 18, 1983 he was married to Cleone Jayne Garside at Atlantic. He retired from his business and they have lived in Atlantic since that time.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church; a member of the V.F.W. since returning from service; was a member of the Elks Lodge; and of the Nishna Golf club.
Surviving are his wife Cleone; one son Judge David Christensen and wife Judy of Lenox; on step-daughter Sarah Davis and husband James of Thurmont, Maryland; three grandchildren, Michael, Matthew and Carrie Christensen of Lenox; two step-grandchildren, James Davis and Joseph Davis of Thurmont, Maryland; three sisters, Astrid Anderson of Atlantic, Carla Turner and husband Kenneth of Anita, and Irma Nelson of Atlantic; nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife Claribel; one son Phillip Christensen; two brothers, Norman Christensen and Erling Christensen and one sister Hilda Butler.
Interment was in Southlawn Memory Gardens in Atlantic, Iowa with military rites.
