Mrs. McFarland’s maiden name was Pisel, and she was born in Franklin county Pennsylvania, March 18, 1845. She is the last of a large family of brothers and sisters. Her parents moved to Johnson county, Iowa, when she was a child and she grew to womanhood there. Her marriage to Jonathan H. McFarland occurred October 13, 1869. In 1876, the family came to Cass county; locating on a farm north of Atlantic. Mrs. McFarland lived her life for her family first of all. She had been a member of the Methodist church for many years, and welcomed the hour when God would call her home. She requested that her former pastor of the Buck Creek church, Rev. C.W. Hohenshelt of Rippey, Ia., officiate at her funeral and he will do so if he is able to get her Sunday. The services will be held from the late residence at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, follow by a service at the Methodist church at 3:00 o’clock.
