Elliott, John Clayton (1814-1893)

John Clayton Elliott was born in Franklin county, Pennsylvania, on December 28th, 1814. When he was three years old his father moved to Wayne county, Ohio, and lived there until the fall of 1842. In December 1840 he was married to Matilda Hutchinson. Three children were born to them, two sons and one daughter, all of whom are living. In 1842 they moved to Linn county, Iowa, and resided there for twenty-one years, thence to Cedar county, where they resided thirteen years. During that time he became a member of the United Brethern church and has lived a devoted christian up to the time of his death. In the spring of 1877 he left Cedar county and moved with his son, O. H. Elliott, to Cass county, where he has lived ever since, making his home with his son, O. H. Elliott, for the past twenty-three years. Father Elliott died December 26th, 1893; aged 79 years. He has seventeen grand children and four great grand children. The funeral occurred on the 27th, conducted by Rev. J. H. Hard, of the M. E. church, after which the remains were laid to rest in Lincoln Cemetery.
