Patrick David Murphy, of Casey, Civil war veteran, former local pioneer and resident of southwestern Iowa since 1875, died at the Jones Hospital at 8:45 this morning after an extended illness. death was due to complications and old age. Deceased lived here until moving to Casey in 1902, living on a farm four miles west of here during that period. He is the grandfather of R.E. McCauley of Atlantic.

He was born March 18, 1843 in Caherciven, County Kerry, Ireland, the son of David and Mary Murphy. He was married to Catherine Lutsey in Wilkes Barre, Pa., in 1868 and came to Atlantic on Feb 28, 1875, settling on the farm west of here. In 1902, he moved to Casey. Mrs. Murphy died dec. 12, 1914.

Eleven Children Survive. Deceased is survived by eleven children, seven sons: William of Manilla, P.I.; C.C. of Casey, John of New Mexico, R.L. of Glasgow, Montana, J.B. and David of Sioux City and Thomas H. of Topeka, Kansas and four daughters, Mrs. E.E. Campbell of Clarinda, Mrs. A.E. McCauley of Atkinson, Neb., Mrs. W.F. Scanlon of St. Catherine, MO, and Mrs. J.E. McCauley of Lincoln, Neb. twenty-four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two brothers, Daniel C. Murphy of Lake Andes, S.D. and Dennis Murphy of Bridgeport, Conn., and one sister, Mrs. Maggie O'Conner, in Ireland, also survive.

Deceased has been in the local hospital about six weeks. The remains will lie in state at the Roland, Peacock & Baxter undertaking establishment here between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. tomorrow. The remains will be taken overland to the C.C. Murphy home three miles south of Casey, at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Funeral services will be held Sunday morning at 10 o'clock at the Casey Catholic Church. Interment will be made there.
