ELK HORN, May 15.

Chris Petersen, Sr., passed away on Saturday evening, April 5th, at the Atlantic Hospital, after an illness of several weeks' duration. He was born in Aalborg, Denmark in 1844, and emigrated to this country and came to Atlantic in 1869. He was then employed as a brakeman on the Rock Island. In 1876 he moved to the farm 1 1/2 miles east of Elk Horn, where the family resided six years. In 1884 they moved to Atlantic, where Mr. Petersen was employed as head clerk in the Levi Downs store, and in 1896 they moved back to the farm east of Elk Horn, where they resided until 1913, when Mr. and Mrs. Petersen moved back to Atlantic. Mrs. Petersen died in 1914, since which time Mr. Petersen made his home with his son, Carl, who lives on the home place. Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. from the home, east of Elk Horn, and at the Danish Lutheran church at 11 o'clock, Rev. C. C. Kloth conducting the services. The remains were then taken to Atlantic, where a short service was held at the German Lutheran church. The remains were laid to rest in the Atlantic Cemetery. He leaves to mourn his departure three sons, Carl M. Petersen, Chris Petersen and James (sic: Janus) Petersen of Elk Horn, and one brother, Paul Petersen, of near Elk Horn.
