RITES FOR MRS. J. G. WHITNEY FRIDAY

Funeral Services for Mrs. Nellie M. Whitney, 99, wife of the late James G. Whitney, longtime Atlantic banker, will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Roland funeral home, the Rev. Harold A. Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic cemetery.

Mrs. Whitney resided at 706 Spruce street and had been in failing health several years. She died Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at St. Bernard hospital in Council Bluffs, where she had been a patient since Dec. 16.

She was born in Beatrom, Wis., Nov. 13, 1863, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Milner and moved with her family to Atlantic in 1870, residing here since. Mr. and Mrs. Whitney were married Feb. 12, 1889. She was graduated from Hillsboro female college of Hillsboro, Ohio in 1883, was a member of the Atlantic OOP club 40 years prior to becoming an honorary member, was a member of the Round Robin Circle, an organization of eight schoolmates, for more than 50 years and was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, which she joined when she was 14.

Mr. Whitney died Aug. 18, 1951 and she was also preceded in death by three daughters, Elinor Marie Ash, who died in 1925 and Grace Evelyn and Dorothy Madge, who died in infancy. Surviving are her son-in-law, Dr. William E. Ash and his wife, of Council Bluffs; two granddaughters, Mrs. Robert E. Driscoll, Jr., of Lead, S.D., and Mrs. Richard M. Caughlan of Council Bluffs; six great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

The Whitney Loan and Trust Company bank, of which Mr. Whitney was president for many years, will close at 1:30 Friday afternoon.
