A Griswold businessman died early Friday at a motel in Evanston, WY., as he and his wife were en route home from a vacation trip to California.
Arleigh Eugene Nelson, 60, who lived on a farm between Elliot and Red Oak, owned the Iowa Pump Co. in Griswold. He was stricken with a fatal heart attack at a motel in Evanston. He and his wife had been visiting relatives and places of interest in California while on a two-week vacation.
Mr Nelson was born May 12, 1912, in Cass county, the son of Virgil Eugene and Bessie Burns Nelson. He was married to Grace Auldeleen Gittens on March 14, 1936, at Plattsmouth, NE, and they had lived at Lewis, Elliot, Red Oak and Griswold. They had operated the Iowa Pump Co. here 11 years.
Surviving are his wife, a son, Dale Nelson of Fort Calhoun, NE; two daughters, Mrs. LeRoy Viner of Malvern and Patricia Elwood of Omaha, eight grandchildren; his father, Virgil Nelson of Spencer; and two sisters, Mrs William Palmer of Spencer and Mrs Ardelle Clevenger of Council Bluffs.
Preceding him in death were his mother and a sister, Lois Alff.
Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p. at United Methodist Church in Griswold with Rev. Richard Hohl, pastor officiating. Ward Childertson was soloist and Mrs. Ethel Phillips was organist. Burial was in the Lowman cemetery southeast of Griswold.
In charge of flowers were Mr and Mrs Harry Zimmerman and Mr and Mrs Kenneth Nelson. Bearers were nephews, Dan and Daryl Clevenger, Dennis and Richard Meyer and Ronald and Tim Palmer.
