Anita Tribune, August 2006:
The funeral service for Marie Rathman, 101, of Anita, was held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at the Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Anita. Mrs. Rathman passed away Saturday, August 26 at the Colonial Manor in Anita.
Officiating was Rev. Ted Weishaupt. Committal services and interment were held in the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita with the Rev. George Krengel officiating. Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Anita was in charge of the arrangements.
Marie Katherine Tibken Rathman was born November 11, 1904, in rural Cumberland, the daughter of Peter and Arvilla (Bittman) Tibken. She attended country school in rural Cumberland. Marie was baptized January 1, 1905, at the First Lutheran Church, south of Wiota, where she was also confirmed on March 28, 1920.
On January 18, 1928, Marie married Thomas Rathman at her parents' home in rural Cumberland.
Marie was a charter member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita, where she was a member of the LWML and their quilting group. Marie also belonged to several Anita area garden and neighborhood clubs.
She was known for her quilting and also enjoyed crafts. She enjoyed doing anything with her hands, including gardening and other hobbies. She also had a great interest in history and genealogy and had written a book on her own family's history. Marie lived her family and friends and was thankful for their love in return. But, above all, her main love was for her Savior, Jesus Christ!
Marie is survived by her daughter, Muryl Jean and her husband, Merle Vokt of Anita; her three sons, Roger Rathman and Rex Rathman, both of Anita, and Ray Rathman and his wife, Marcy of Greenfield; a son-in-law, Tony Petersen of Anita. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Rathman; her daughter, LaVon Petersen; her parents, Peter and Arvilla Tibken; a sister, Louise Rector; a great-grandson, Jeremy Faga; and two great-great-grandchildren, in infancy.
