Former Postmaster Re-
ceives Glad Welcome

--------

The town of Exira was delighted
to welcome an old resident, Mr.
E. D. Powell, now of Ottawa,
Kansas, but formerly our post-
master for a long term of years.

Mr. Powell had come to Atlan-
tic to attend the funeral of his
sister, Miss Rose, who passed
away in California and was laid to
rest in the family burial lot at
Marne.

After he had performed this sad
mission he made a flying visit to
our town to greet old friends and
neighbors, and note the changes
which ten years time has wrought.

The years have been kind to Mr.
Powell and he looks no older than
when he moved to Lawrence, Kan-
sas, to place his daughters in the
state university there.

He reports Mrs. Powell as well
and happy and the little family of
his oldest daughter, Mary, as con-
tented and prosperous.

The younger daughter, Clara,
who was always affectionately
known here as Babe, after having
finished the course in music at the
state university, went to Chicago
and for five years continued her
musical studies under Mavin and
Krumm. She is in Kansas for the
winter teaching music but expects
to go to New York soon to enter
grand opera.

Note: Parents of Ernest Delbert Powell (1861-1926) were Albert Powell and Chloe Barney. He was married to Caroline "Carrie" Gault.
