Anita Fire Department
Checks Bad Fire
--------

What might have resulted in the
total destruction of the K. P.
building, one of the finest and best
structures in Anita, together with
other valuable adjacent properties,
was averted in the early stage of a
fire which was discovered in the
basement at 10:15 Monday night,
where the flames were raging fierce-
ly, and the smoke, in great vol-
umes, issuing from the doors and
windows on all three stories of the
building, from the bottom to the
top.

The fire department made
prompt response to the alarm
turned in, and shortly after, two
lines of hose was pouring water in
great quantities on the flames,
which were finally extinguished,
but not until great damage had
been done to the building and also
to the stock of general merchandise
on the second floor, owned by
Lattig & Crawford.

The thirdstory is occupied by
Logan Lodge No. 190, Knights of
Pythias, which organization owns
the building, having purchased it a
number of years ago from Lattig
Brothers, by whom it was erected
at a cost of nearly $10,000.
