Mrs. G.A. Spies of Cumberland Dies Sunday
Mrs Frances Mary Spies, 72, resident of Cumberland vicinity for many years, died yesterday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the state hospital in Clarinda as the result of a stroke. Mrs. Spies had been a patient for five months.
She was born Jan. 18, 1868, in Henry county, Ill., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Trego, and came to Iowa in September, 1872, settling in Cass county. In 1874, she moved to Dexter and three years later returned to Cass county, where she was married to George A. Spies June 2, 1891, at the home of her parents near Cumberland.
Mr. Spies died Aug. 26, 1921. Surviving are two sons, Paul T. Spies of Cumberland and Gilbert H. of Shenandoah, and a foster daughter, Mrs. Minnie B. Engle of Aberdeen, S.D., together with five grandchildren.
Mrs. Spies was a member of the Atlantic Methodist church.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Roland, Peacock & Baxter funeral home here and burial will be in the Cumberland cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home until the funeral hour.
