AUDUBON - Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Vernon M. Sorensen at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the United Methodist Church for Hans L. Aagaard, 90, who died Thursday in Friendship Home here. Burial was in the Hamlin cemetery under direction of McFadden Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Jeff Aagaard, Jon Aagaard, Randy Nelson, Robert Rugaard, and Robert Ruhs Jr.

Hans L. Aagaard was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, on May 19, 1886, the son of Andreas and Bertha Koch Aagaard. He came to America at the age of eight. His marriage to Enger Mortensen took place on June 16, 1909, and she passed away in 1935. He was married on Feb. 9, 1945 to Esther Ruhs.

Mr. Aagaard farmed, served as the Hamlin postmaster, operated a hardware and lumber business in Hamlin, and carpentered in Audubon for many years. He also invented and manufactured the original barn door latch.

He was a member of the Audubon United Methodist Church and of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edgar, two sons, one daughter, five sisters, three brothers and his parents.

Surviving are his wife, Esther; two daughters, Mrs. H. A. (Bertha) Bradbury of Palos Verdes, Calif., and Mrs. Ben (Mary Ann) Nelson of St. Cloud, Minn.; two sons, Glenn of Audubon and Robert of Apapha, Fla.; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
