Manning - Funeral service for Amos Gustav Carsen Jahn of Manning was held this morning, Monday, March 20, 2000, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Mr Jhn, 84, died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Manning Plaza nursing home. Pastor Curt Dwyer officiated the service. Casket bearers were Jackie Kiser, Todd Kiser, Steve Rasmussen, Jeffrey Wilson, Bill Daul and Alan Grimm. Burial was the afternoon in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery at Adair. Ohde Funeral Home of Manning was in charge of arrangements.

A son of J. F. William and Martha (Pepper) John, he was born July 7, 1915, at Hayes Township in Crawford County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended Hayes No. 9 rural school through eighth grade then stayed home to help the family in farming. After his father died, Mr. Jahn remained with his mother and farmed. He and Esther Pfoltner of Aspinwall were married Sept. 22, 1937, at the Lutheran parsonage in Manning. They stayed in the family's farm until renting a farm south of Manilla in 1941. The Jahns bought a farm near Adair in 1950.

The Jahns moved back to Manning in 1994. After his wife died in 1996, Mr. John's health began to decline and he moved to Manning Plaza. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning and enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and traveling by motor home. Survivors include three children: Deanna Rasmussen and he husband, Estel, of St. Joseph, Mo., Dorene Wilson of Memphis, Tenn., and Dale John and his wife, Janell, of Omaha, Neb.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ila Grimm, of Manning. Mr. John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three sisters: Alva Wolfe, Bernice Stammer and Wiletta Jahn in infancy; and a brother, Hugo John.
