Manning

Funeral service for Florence Elfrieda Genzen of Manning will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2002, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Mrs. Genzen, 82, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Mercy Medical center in Des Moines. Rev. Daniel Vogel will officiate and burial will be at Manning Cemetery in Manning. Casket bearers will be Kent Vollstedt, Keith Vollstedt, Bary Keinast, Robert Genzen, Michael Jacobsen and Daniel Grove. Honarary casket bearers will be Mrs. Genzen's granddaughters, Karen Kienast, Kathy Vollstedt, Janet Smith, Paula Wulf, Barbara Gove and Judith Jacobsen. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning.

A daughter of Jurgen and Anna (Peters) Hinz, she was born Jan. 5, 1920, at the family farm in Ewoldt Township northeast of Manning. She attended rural school. She and Virgil Johann Genzen were married Oct. 16, 1935, at Zion Lutheran Church in Clarinda. They farmed northeast of Manning until fall 1983, when they retired and moved into Manning. Mr. Genzen moved to Manning Plaza in 1998 and died there Feb. 4, 2002. On June 22, Mrs. Genzen suffered a stroke in her home.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, participating in its Evening Circle, along with being a 4-H Manning Cadets leader for over 50 years, specializing in teaching sewing and baking to the members. Mrs. Genzen enjoyed passing her German heritage down to her relatives, and she spoke the language. Survivors include two children and their spouses, Larry and Cynthia Genzen and Darlene and Dale Vollstedt, all of Manning; nine grandchild; 28 great-grandchildren; two great- great-granddaughters; two sisters, Edna Kaspersen and her husband, Kermit, of Manning and Eldora Hofvanver of Chicago; and two sisters-in-law, Eileen Hinz of Denver, Colo., and Mary Hinz of Minneapolis, Minn. Mrs. Genzen was preceded in death by her parents; husband Virgil; three brothers, Walter, Edward and Robert Hinz; a sister, Lualla Gruhn and her husband, Max; and a brother-in-law, Carl Hofvanver.
