Manning - The Rite of Christian burial for Donald Raymond Horbach of Omaha, Neb., was held this morning, Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. Mr. Horbach, 66, a native of Manning, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha. The Rev. James McAlpin officiated the service. Lector was Ray Thielen. Servers were Tim Hugeback and Matt Hugeback. Casket bearers were David Muhlbauer, Joe Timperly, Duane Schleisman, Tom Wolff, Lynn Stein and Lonnie Ferneding. Emil Ewold American Legion Post No. 22 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3517, both of Manning, had military honors. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery Manning. A son of Joseph B. and Mildred (Mescher) Horbach, he was born Aug. 13, 1931, at Manning and attended schools there, graduating in 1950. He entered the Navy in 1951 and was honorably discharged Dec. 2, 1954. He and Jean Rider of Omaha were married May 30, 1961, at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. They resided in Omaha. Mr Horbach was employed at Offutt Air Force Base. He retired in 1989 due to health problems. He was a member of St. John Vianny Catholic Church in Millard, Neb. Survivors include his wife, Jean, of Omaha; two sons and their wives: Brian and Susan Horbach of Omaha and Joe and Tracy Horbach of Omaha; his mother, Mildred Horbach, of Manning; and a brother, Robert Horbach, and his wife, Arlene, of Las Vegas, Nev. Mr. Horbach was preceded in death by an infant son, Keith and his parents.
