Mrs. Margaret Fleskes, 76, of Mt. Carmel, widow of John Fleskes, died at 3:40 Wednesday afternoon at St. Anthony Hospital, where she had been admitted Tuesday. She had been in failing health the past year and seriously ill the last several days.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. The Rev. O. W. Coaster will offer requiem mass. Burial will be in the Mt. Carmel parish cemetery.
The rosary, led by Fr. Koester, will be recited at 8 p. m. Thursday and Friday at the Sharp Funeral Home, where the body may be viewed after 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Mrs. Fleskes was born Margaret Julich Jan. 11, 1880, at Maple River. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Math Julich.
She married Mr. Fleskes May 8, 1900, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, with the Rev. G. H. Luehersman officiating.
Mr. and Mrs. Fleskes established their home in Maple River, where Mr. Fleskes operated a general store until 1923. At that time, the family moved to Mt. Carmel, where Mr. Fleskes formed a partnership with the late M. J. Bergen in a general store. This partnership continued until 1938, when Mr. Bergen retired and Mr. and Mrs. Fleskes' son, Leo, went into partnership with them. Mr. and Mrs. Fleskes retired in 1952.
After her husband's death June 6, 1954, Mrs. Fleskes continued to live in Mt. Carmel. She had resided at the Vanderheiden Nursing Home there for the last six months.
Mr. and Mrs. Fleskes celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1950.
Mrs. Fleskes' survivors include three sons, three daughters, 32 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. The sons and daughters are: Al T. Fleskes, Fort Dodge; Edward M. Fleskes. Carroll; Mrs. Tony (Mathilda) Boes, Breda; Mrs. Ed (Marie) Kanne, Carroll; Mrs. Louis (Henrietta) Bernardy, Waterloo; and Leo F. Fleskes, Mt. Carmel.
She also leaves six sisters and five brothers: Mrs. Mary Berger, Mt. Carmel; Henry Julich, Mt. Carmel; Engelbert Julich, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Mrs. Frank Polking, Breda; Leo Julich, Mt. Carmel; Mrs. Anton Stork, Bancroft; Mrs. Henry Stork, Mt. Carmel; Fred Julich, Carroll; Mrs. Joe Tegels. Carroll; Carl Julich, West Des Moines; and Mrs. Henry Brune, Bemidji, Minn.
Four children died in infancy. Mrs. Fleskes was also preceded in death by one brother, Joe Julich, and two sisters, Mrs. Nick Thielen and Mrs. Peter Muehl.
She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and the Christian Mothers Sodality of the parish.
