Obituary for Lyle L. Donnelson
Lyle L. Donnelson, 75, of Bellevue, went to heaven to join the love of his life, Virginia, Friday morning, January 19, 2018, at Mill Valley Care Center, in Bellevue.There will be services at both Bellevue and Manning, Iowa. A Visitation for Lyle will be held from 5:30-7:00 pm, Thursday evening January 25, at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellevue, followed by a scripture service at 7:00pm. A 2nd visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00am Saturday morning, January 27, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, followed by a funeral service and burial.
Arrangements are being handled by Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue.
Lyle was born on August 1, 1942, in Missouri, son of George “Eddie” and Theresa (Layton) Donnelson. He was the youngest of five children.
Lyle married Virginia Backhaus on September 18, 1976. He cherished his wife and gained three wonderful step-children, whom he loved as his own. His new family was extremely important to him, Lyle and Virginia even took the three children on their honeymoon to Disney.
Lyle spent his entire career in the concrete industry. He worked for many companies and did everything from driving cement trucks to managing ready mix plants. He was honest, hardworking and knew the business well. He was a real asset to the companies’ he worked for.
In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball and slow pitch softball. He was quite an accomplished pitcher. Lyle also enjoyed fishing and playing cards. In recent years his greatest joy was watching Fox News and debating with anyone, his strong Republican views and opinions.
In 2005, Lyle and Virginia moved to Bellevue to be close to his grandchildren in Bellevue and Chicago. He enjoyed attending their activities and spending time with them. After moving to Bellevue, they developed many new friendships. They traveled and made many bus trips with Bud and Jan Keil. He will be deeply missed. Lyle, had many important “meetings” with his friends at Richmond’s, where they “solved many of the world’s problems.”
Those left to honor his memory include, two step daughters, Dr. Ranae (Larry) Yockey-Orrico, of Itasca, Illinois and Rhonda (Dr. Scott) Anderson, of Bellevue; six grandchildren, Chaz and Rachelle Orrico and Rebecca, Matthew, Lucas and Marcus Anderson; and two special nephews, Rick and Jimmy Sell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, step-son, Todd Yockey; two brothers, Walter and Larry Dean and two sisters, Dixie and Donna Rae.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Lyle’s name.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Ram, Dr. Janes and Dr. Hunter and their staff; the staff at Sunrise Villa, Mill Valley, Hospice of Jackson County, Mercy Hospital and Bellevue Ambulance for the great care and compassion shown to Lyle over the past couple of years.
