Carroll Sentinel - December 3, 1900 - Another victim of the accursed drink habit met his doom Wednesday afternoon in the railroad yards at this place. Chas. Yokes, an employe in tire construction department of the C. & N.W., had drawn his pay last week, and not unlike many of his companions, got on a protracted drunk.
He resumed work a few days ago and had cashed a small pay check at the depot and was in the act of boarding a west bound freight when the fatal accident occurred. He slipped and fell alongside the train, the wheels and hubs striking him and rolling him for some distance. Several bones were broken and his skull crushed.
Life was not entirely extinct when the man was picked up but he expired in a few minutes. The cause of the accident was apparent in an empty flask which fell from his pocket when he was knocked down. As in several other cases of a similar nature relatives or friends are unknown and the remains of the unfortunate man will probably be consigned to the dissecting table.
