Sept 12, 1935 - Carroll Times - Harry Herman Irwin, 25, only son of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Irwin, passed away at 9 o'clock this morning at the Irwin home on Fourteenth street. He had been in failing health for the past two and a half years and was brought to his home Monday from Ottumwa, where he had been taking treatments since March 22 in the Sunny Slope Sanitarium. Previous to that time he had taken treatment at St Anthony hospital. He also had been a patient in the Fort Des Moines hospital for a short time.
Born at Lohrville Mr. Irwin was born on May 4, 1910, at Lohrville, Ia. He accompanied his parents to Carroll when he was four years old and soon afterwards entered the public school here. When he was a junior in the Carroll high school, his parents moved to Jefferson. He was graduated from the Jefferson high school with the class of 1928. He took a post graduate course in the school and later accepted a position as manager of C.B. Center Store in Manning.
While attending Jefferson school, he was editor of the school paper. The following year he attended the University of Iowa at Iowa City but was forced to give that up two years later because of ill health.
After taking treatment for a time, his health improved and he again made his home with his parents, who had returned to their Carroll home after living in Jefferson for three years. He was employed in The Carroll Daily Herald shop for a short time and held other positions but was forced to give up work on account of ill health.
He worked for a time at the C.C.C. camp at Boone and later was placed in the Fort Des Moines hospital. Since that time he had gradually been growing weaker. The body is at the Huffman Funeral home awaiting funeral arrangements.
Mr. Irwin attended the Methodist Episcopal church. His father, who has been in failing health for the past five years, is now bedfast at the Irwin home.
