June 5, 1924 - Carroll - Fred Beers, for many years a resident of this city, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Samuel Hardey, at Omaha, Tuesday, after being in failing health for a number of years.

Mr. Beers, who was 89 years old, was a veteran of the Civil war, being a charter member of post No. 44, in 83d Illinois infantry. In earlier years he was a carpenter and erected many of the substantial buildings in this city. He also served the city for some years as assessor.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Walter Calvin and Mrs. Samuel Hardey, both of Omaha. Funeral services will be held at the Gregory & Garry funeral home this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Ellas Handy will officiate. The G.A.R. will also be in charge of the services. The American Legion will attend the funeral and a Legion firing squad will accompany the remains.
