Oct 28, 1961 - Carroll Daily Times - Harold Gilley Pelsue, 72, Canton, S.D., member of a pioneer Carroll family, died Friday at Canton Inwood Hospital at Canton after being in ill health for three years and seriously ill for the past 13 days. He was the brother of Mrs. Glenn N. Weeks, and had spent part of the last three years in the Weeks home in Carroll, the last year at Canton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at the Huffman Funeral Home in Carroll. The Rev. Allan M. Peterson, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will officiate; and burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home all day Monday.

Surviving are his sister, Mrs. (Lutherea) Weeks and two nieces: Mrs. C.C. (Jane) Ingersoll and Mrs. James (Marcia) Porter.

Mr. Pelsue was born in Carroll Sept. 19, 1889, a son of Edson J. and Emma Gilley Pelsue. After finishing high school in Carroll he was employed by George Selzer & Sons automobile dealers and later by Heider Manufacturing Company in the tractor department. He transferred to the Rock Island Plow Co., at Rock Island, Illinois, and during World War I his work was keeping tractors in working order in Canada and the United States to insure farm production necessary for the war effort.

In 1923 he joined Iowa Heat, Light and Power Company, predecessor of Iowa Public Service Company. In 1933 he resumed a career with the company in the new business department, working in both the Clarion and Eagle Grove offices. He went to Canton in 1935 as district manager and retired in April, 1957. He was very active in community and civic affairs both in Carroll and Canton, having served on committees for the local hospital and country club. Mr. Pelsue was a charter member of the Rotary Club, held membership in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and while in Carroll attended the Presbyterian Church.

He was married Oct. 4, 1924, to Florence Lucille Brown at Minneapolis, Minn. Mrs. Pelsue died Nov. 1, 1947. His parents also preceded him in death.
