July 23, 1886 - Carroll Sentinel - John Truman Hoyt, the oldest child in the family of Mr. and Mrs. M.A. Hoyt, died at their home here Wednesday morning, aged eleven years. This bright and loving little boy had been a patient sufferer for some time, but in the last few months he had endured excessive pain from rheumatic fever in its severest form, and a few weeks ago it was feared he must die. But he rallied, and for a time there were strong hopes of his recovery. But the attack returned, and the poor little lad, weakened and feebled with the long combat, passed quietly away from all suffering. The parents have the warm sympathies of all in their great loss. The funeral occurred yesterday afternoon at the Methodist church, and was very largely attended.
