Dec 1, 1893 - Carroll Sentinel - W.E. Lawton died at his home Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The deceased was one of the oldest residents of our city and is known to nearly the entire community. Since his wife died a few months past, his health has been poor and those who saw him could not help but notice that each succeeding day left its impress on his life and when the fatal disease set in, it was not long in claiming its victim.

The funeral services of W.E. Lawton were held at the residence of his son-in-law, J.A. McNeil.
