May 4, 1911 - Carroll Times - At his home on the south side on Saturday morning, at 9 o'clock occurred the death of one of our repected and honored, citizens when Frank Staak answered the final call and passed to the other land. He had been in ill health for several months, suffering with chronic lead poison.

He took about three week's treatment at St. Antnony hospital during March but it was found that nothing could be done for him and was taken to his home where he patiently awaited the end. In his death Carroll loses a man who, in the many years that he lived here, proved himself to be of the sterling worth and sturdy character which goes to make up our best citizens. He was a loving and kind husband and an honest and pleasant neighbor and he had a host of friends who grieve sincerely because of his death.

Frank Staak was born in Germany in the fall of 1849. When yet a young man he came to this country and settled in LaSalle county, Illnois. Here he lived until 1875 when he removed to Carroll and he has been a continuous resident of this county ever since.

Shortly after coming to this county, or in other words in 1878, he was married to Miss Katherine Wolfe. Only one child was born to this union which was called home to its Master in infancy. His wife survives the loss of a life's faithful companion.

He leaves also to mourn his loss a brother, Wm. Staak of Chicago, and several nephews and nieces. The last sad rites over this excellent man were held from St. Joseph's church on Tuesday, forenoon and a host of old friends and neighbors attended and thus showed the respect in which the deceased was held during life.
