Mrs. Fidelia Pierce died at the home of her son, D. D. Pierce in this city. She was born February 4, 1813 and died May 6, 1909. She was born at Anson, Somerset county, Maine. On June 10, 1831 she was united in marriage to Henry Pierce and moved to DeKalb county, Ill., in the fall of 1851. From there they moved to Butler county, Iowa, in October, 1859.

To this union there were born five children, two girls and three boys, all of whom have crossed the dark river with the exception of her son David with whom she was living at the time of her death.

For some time she has been living in this city and though in her ninety-sixth year was remarkably well preserved. Her memory was good and she was able to be up the greater part of the time. She was a very remarkable woman and her mind was a storehouse filled with much valuable information gained by personal experience extending over nearly a century in the greatest period in the history of the human race.

At the age of fifteen she was converted to the teachings of the Free Will Baptist church and has all her life been a devout christian and died in full faith of the saving power of the Lord Jesus Christ.

In February, 1875, her companion for nearly fifty years passed away. Since then she has lived with her children and her days were protracted to such a remarkable extent that she saw them all pass away with the exception of one.

The many friends of Grandma Pierce will regret to know that she has at last paid life's greatest penalty for she was a kind lovable woman and made the world a better place for having lived in it.
