Mr. Henry Klocke Dies In Chicago

Succumbs To Pneumonia Attack

Pleasant Valley Farmer Stricken While in City With Live Stock Shipment -- Remains Brought Back to Carroll County For Burial.

Henry Klocke, a prominent farmer and live stock man of Pleasant Valley township, died on Monday morning in a Chicago hospital. The cause of death was pneumonia, the result probably of cold and exposure while taking a shipment of live stock to the Chicago market. Upon arrival in Chicago his condition was so serious that a physician was consulted who advised that Mr. Klocke should be taken to a hospital, as the symptoms indicated pneumonia. Upon information being received of his condition Mrs. Klocke and a son-in-law, Frank Venteicher went to the city to be with him. At first it was thought that he was improving and Mr. Venteicher returned to Carroll, only to learn shortly after his arrival here that the disease had taken a change for the worse and had ended fatally. He returned to Chicago on Monday.

Henry Klocke was born in Germany in the year 1842 and came to America in 1870, while still a young man. He was married at Galen, Illinois, in the year 1874, to Miss Mary Roth, who survives him. Twelve children have been born to them, all of whom are living. There are two sons and ten daughters.

They came to Carroll county and settled in Pleasant Valley township in 1875. Industry, business capacity and thrift made of Mr. Klocke one of the most prosperous farmers and largest land owners of the county. To his original possessions he has year by year increased his holdings and was in possession of a very fine property at the time of his death.

The funeral will be held at SS. Peter and Paul's church at 9 o'clock a.m. Friday.
