WILLIAM GEHLING SR.

William Gehling Sr., 62, of Route 1, Carroll, died at St. Anthony Hospital at 10:50 p.m. Monday, June 10, after a short illness. He was a lifelong resident of Carroll County.

Requiem mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in SS. Peter and Paul Church by the Very Rev. Leo Lenz, V.F. Interment will be in Mt, Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call at the Twit Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Tuesday. The rosary will be recited Tuesday night at 8 and 8:45; Wednesday at 3 p.m., and 8 p.m. by the Holy Name Society of. Holy Spirit parish, and again at 8:45.

Mr. Gehling was born at Carroll July 16, 1905, a son of Herman Sr. and Ella Timp Gehling. He received his education in SS. Peter and Paul School and was engaged in farming. His marriage to Agnes Staiert took place Jan. 22, 1929, in St. Francis Church, Maple River, with the Rev. Fr. Meyers officiating. officiating.

In earlier years Mr. Gehling had been a director of the Carroll County Stale Bank, a member of the cemetery board, a director of SS. Peter and Paul Church and a director of Farmers Elevator. He was a member of Holy Spirit parish.

Surviving are eight children: Mrs. Louis (Dorothy) Hoffman, Dedham; Raymond, Coon Rapids; Mrs. John (Marceal) Wittry, Breda; Mrs. Harold (Alitta) Lansink, Ida Grove; Larry, William, David and Philip, Carroll; also 19 grandchildren; one brother, Ted Gehling of Carroll; and four sisters, Mrs. Tony (Agnes) Wernimont, Auburn; Sr. Ann Gehling, Mrs. Clarence (Catherine) Masching and Mrs. James (Cecilia) Houlihan, Carroll.

Mr. Gehling was preceded in death by his wife; one son, Arthur; three brothers, Herman Jr., Henry and Joseph; and a sister, Mrs. William (Mary)Reiling.
