Death of John Thelen.

John Telen passed away at the home of his son, Nick, Saturday, October 25th, at the age of 84 years, after an illness of long duration. During the last six months his health was gradually failing and it was plainly seen that the end would come soon. His death being caused from old age.

Deceased was born in Germany 84 years ago. In 1874 he left his native country to seek his fortune in America immediately coming to Carroll county where he took up a homestead and had lived on the same farm up to his death. Many hardships were overcome by him in the early days which he went through but he mastered them all and finally when times grew better he prospered as did others in those days. In 1889 his wife died and since that time he had been living with his son on the old homestead. Mr. Thelen was an upright and liberal minded man and a thorough christian. He was a kind and affectionate father and husband and reared a family who are a credit to his memory. The bereaved children have the sympathy of all in the loss of their father.

Five sons are left to mourn his death are: Joe and Michael of St. Cloud, Minnesota; Anton, of Parkston, South Sakota; P. W. of Maple River, and Nick, of Breda.

The funeral services were held Monday at St. Bernard's church and the remains were laid to rest beside those of his wife.

Those from out of town who came to attend the funeral were: Anton Thelen, of Parkston, South Dakota; Joe Thelen, of St. Cloud, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Koll, of Carroll, and V. Koll, of Mapleton.
