Mrs. Skalla Is Dead; Mother of Mrs. G. Busche

Mrs. Mary Magdalene Skalla of Coon Rapids, mother of Mrs. George Busche of Carroll, died at 8:30 last night at the home of another daughter, Mrs. Emil Wurr, east and south of Coon Rapids, where she had lived for the last several years.

Mrs. Skalla, who was eighty-one years old on Dec. 26, died suddenly of a heart ailment after an illness of only a few days.

Survivors include seven children.

The body is being returned Thursday afternoon from the Coder Funeral Home to the Wurr residence, to rest there until the time of the rites.

Services are to be at 10 o'clock Saturday morning at Annunciation Church in Coon Rapids. Burial will be beside her husband in the family lot in the Catholic cemetery at Willey.

Funeral Service For Mrs. Skalla To Be Saturday

Funeral rites will be conducted at 10 o'clock Saturday morning at Annunciation Church, Coon Rapids, for Mrs. Mary Magdalene Skalla, who succumbed at 8:30 Tuesday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emil Wurr, east and south of Coon Rapids. The requiem mass will be read by the Rev. Father Charles O'Malley.

Burial will be beside her husband in the family lot in the Willey Cemetery. Six grandsons will serve as pallbearers. They are Melvin Busche, Junior Skalla, Lawrence Wurr, Bernard Wanninger, Marvin Heim and Joseph Skalla.

Mrs. Skalla, who was one of a family of nine children, was born Dec. 26, 1861, at Guttenburg, Ia., a daughter of John and Magdalene Gute.

April 15, 1888, she married Joseph Skalla at Willey. They established their home on a farm five miles south of Carroll, moving from there to the Willey community, where Mrs. Skalla lived for fifty-four years. Her husband died Jan 13, 1923.

For the last several years Mrs. Skalla had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Emil Wurr, and family, east and south of Coon Rapids.

Surviving are seven children: Mrs. E. A. Heim (Lizzie), Auburn; Mrs. G. H. Busche (Anna), Carroll; Joseph Skalla, Florissant, Colo.; Mrs. Emil Wurr (Frances), Coon Rapids; Frank Skalla, Scranton; Mrs. Wolfe Wanninger (Mary), Manning, and Mrs. George Anthofer (Alice), Coon Rapids.

Mrs. Skalla leaves forty-eight grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by three brothers and one sister, William Gute, Cloverland, Wash.; Mike Gute, Dedham; Frank Gute, south of Carroll, and Mrs. A. M. Sterner, Dedham.

Her oldest son, John, died at Colorado Springs nineteen years ago. Three brothers, Pete Gute of Glidden, John of Breda and August of Willey, and one sister have also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Skalla was a member of Annunciation Church at Coon Rapids.
