Another Carroll Boy Gives His Life

John Fischer Died From Wounds Received in Battle

Son of W. Fischer

Nature of Injuries and the Day He Was Wounded Not Yet Known Here -- Was Registered in Minnesota -- In service Since Feb. 23.

Wolfgang Fischer received word from Washington, D. C. Friday evening that his son, John Fischer, had died August 15 from wounds received in action. The nature of the injuries and the day he was wounded are not yet known by the parents. John Fischer was born in Hillsdale, Iowa, July 11, 1887, and spent the greater part of his life in Carroll county. At the time of registration last year he was farming with a brother at St. James, Minnesota, and registered at that place, going from there with the Minnesota boys to Camp Dodge, February 23. Later he was transferred to Camp Seward, South Carolina, and sailed for France May 10, arriving there May 24.

While his parents have made Carroll their home for almost three years he has not spent much time in this city as his work has been in the neighboring state. He was a capable young man of good habits and an industrious nature and was ready and willing to respond to his call to service.

His parents recently received a letter from him written July 29 and at that time he was well and happy and filled with the spirit of battle.

He was a devout member of the Catholic church and was affiliated with S.S. Peter and Paul's church of this city.
