Henry Bruning Of Breda Dies; Rites Friday

Passes Away At Home After Sickness of Nine Months

Helped Build First Catholic Church In The Town Of Breda

Breda (Special) -- Henry Bruning, 76, prominent business man here for many years and a brother-in-law of Joseph Gietz of Carroll, passed away at 6:45 o'clock Tuesday evening of complications due to advanced age.

Mr. Bruning had been sick the past nine months. He had been receiving treatment in the Carroll hospital and was taken to his home last Thursday. Mr. Bruning had been bedfast the past three weeks.

Funeral Services

Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Friday morning at the St. Bernard church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Mr.Bruning was the son of the late Bernard and Elizabeth Bruning. He was born on May 13, 1859, at Sinsinawa Mound, Wis., and moved to Carroll county from Grant City, Wis., with his parents in 1878. They located on a farm southwest of Breda. In 1879 he moved with his parents to Breda.

Mr. Bruning helped build the first Catholic church there. He became engaged in the livestock business in 1880 and six years later started in the mercantile business. For the past 45 years, he had been a real estate agent.

Married in 1881

Miss Mary Gietz became his bride on Sept. 20, 1881, at Breda. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Norton. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary five years ago.

They were the parents of eleven children. Two have passed away. Elizabeth died on Dec. 13, 1918, and Fred died in France on Oct. 1, 1918.

Survivors include his widow, nine children, Bernard of Mobridge,S. D., Herman, Joe, Louis, Lawrence, Edmund, Blendina, all of Breda. Mrs. Norris Royalty (Frances) of Sioux City and Miss Adelaide of Armstrong; one sister, Mrs. Mary Wuebben, and three brothers, Herman Bruning, sr., B. N. Bruning all of Breda and Frank Bruning of Council Bluffs.

His sister, Mrs. Joseph Gietz of Carroll died a few years ago.
