Fred Spieker, 85, Dies Here Sunday OF Brief Illness

Fred Spieker, 85, who had lived in Carroll County for seventy years, died at 1:45 yesterday afternoon at the home of his son, Leo Spieker, 126 North Adams Street. He had been ill about three weeks.

Funeral services are to be at 9:30 Wednesday morning at SS. Peter and Paul’s Church, with the Rev. L. Schenkelberg offering the requiem mass. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

The body is being returned at 5 o’clock this afternoon from the Sharp Funeral Home to the Leo Spieker residence, to rest there until the hour of the rites.

Mr. Spieker was born September 18, 1858 [should be October 6, 1856] in Westphalia, Germany. At the age of twelve years, he came to the United States and located at Newton, Iowa. After living there for three years, he came to Carroll County.

He resided on a farm south of Carroll until his retirement thirty-two years ago.

In 1882 Mr. Spieker was married to Theresa Tubbert [should be Dubbert], also a native of Westphalia, Germany. She passed away Feb. 4, 1914. Mr. Spieker was also preceded in death by four children.

Survivors include four sons: Tony, John, and Leo of Carroll, and Fred W. of Petersburg, Neb., and one sister, Mrs. Sophia Lappe of Carroll.

Mr. Spieker was a member of SS. Peter and Paul’s Church and the Holy Name Society of the parish.

TO PRAY ROSARY
The rosary, led by the Rev. Father Schenkelberg, will be prayed at the Leo Spieker home at 8 o’clock Tuesday evening.
