Peter Thielen Jr., 79, of Carroll, died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. Fr. Robert Fangman will officiate.

Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. today, Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, where there will be a rosary prayed at 4 p.m. and a Christian wake service by Holy Spirit Parish at 7 p.m. The casket will be taken to the church at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday to lie in state until the time of the funeral Mass.

Burial, with Military honors by the Carroll American Legion, will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery at Carroll.

Memorials may be left at the funeral home or church for St. Anthony Nursing Home.

Lectors for the Mass will be granddaughters: Lindsey Irlbeck, Mandy Tuel and Crystal Hoffman. Gift bearers will be grandchildren: Madison Hook, Samantha Thielen, Mallory Thielen and Trevor Thielen. Eucharistic ministers will be Jann Watson and Rose and John Guinan.

Casket bearers will be grandsons: Travis Hook, Nathan Hook, Nick Bellinghausen, Damon tuel, Matt Hoffman and Joe Irlbeck.

A son of Peter J. and Julia (Reiff) Thielen Sr., he was born Nov. 15, 1929, at manning. He attended country school near Willey and then helped his Dad on the farm. In March 1950, he entered the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in September 1953.

On June 15, 1955, he married Margaret "Mugs" Schrum in Manning. The couple made their home in carroll, where he was employed for thirty-five years as a semi-truck driver for the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of Carroll, until his retirement.

He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, the Carroll American Legion and the Carroll Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed his family, fishing, hunting, gardening and yard work.

Survivors include his children: Joe Thielen and wife deb of Maple River, Donna Bellinghausen and husband Dale of Halbur, Karen Hook and husband Doug of Carroll and Mike Thielen and wife Jill of Johnston; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law: Marie thielen of Carroll, Rose Thielen of Granger, Dorothea Musfeldt of Manning and Norma Luetje and husband Wendall of Westside.

Mr. Thielen was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret "Mugs" Thielen, in November 1983; his parents; a step-mother, Bertha Thielen; sisters: Kathleen Thielen, Mary Ann Venteicher, and Irene Wendl; and brothers: Edwin, Norbert, William, Eugene and Romain Thielen.
