Andrew H. Schreck
DedhamAndrew H. Schreck, 84, of Dedham died Sunday morning Nov. 15, 2009, at st. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass ofthe Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dedham with the Rev. Terry Roder presiding and Deacon Louis Meiners assisting. Lectors will be Mr. Schreck's granddaughters: Jenny Schreck and Sue Elliot. Gift bearers will be granddaughters: Caitlin Schreck, Abbi Schreck and Lisa Schreck. Servers will be Danny Brittany Baumhover. Eucharistic ministers will be daughters-in-law: Gayle Schreck and Shell Schreck.
Casket bearers will be grandsons: B.J. Schreck, Andy Schreck, Brian Schreck, Tony Schreck, Alex Schreck, Ben Schreck, Nicholas Sanders and Dan Schreck. Honorary casket bearers will be Lawrence Klocke, Wayne Klocke, Gerald Schreck, Gerald D. Schreck, Leo wernimont and Pat Irlbeck. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at Dedham with military honors by the Dedham American Legion.
Visitation starts at 3:30 and the Carroll Knights of Columbus will lead a rosary at 4 Tuesday afternoon at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. St. Joseph parish will hold a Christian wake service at 7:30 tuesday night at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Anthony Hospice or the Kuemper Catholic Schools Scolarship Fund in lieu of flowers.
A son of George and Philomena (Venteicher) Schreck, he was born Sept. 9, 1925, near Willey and attended St. Mary Catholic School there.
He and Ruth Dentlinger were married Jan. 17, 1951, at St. John Catholic Church in Arcadia with the Rev. Otto Dentlinger officiating.
Mr. Schreck entered the Army in February 1951, and the Schrecks spent their first year of married life stationed at the Atlanta (GA.) General Military Depot. Mr. Schreck served in the 45th Infantry in Korea and earned the Korean service Medal with Bronze Star. He was honorably discaharged in February 1953.
The Schrecks farmed north of Dedham until 1987 then moved into town.
Mr. Schreck was a member of St. Joseph Parish, choir and parish board and was a Eucharistic minister. He was also a member of the Dedham American Legion and Knights of Columbus and former member of the Dedham Co-op Board. He enjoyed his children's school activities, slowpitch softball, watching TV, his wife's raisin pie and having coffee with friends.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of Dedham; 10 children and their spouses: Carol and Dr. David Winans of Kansas City, Kan., Mary Schreck of Liberty, Mo., Joyce and Dennis Ruebhausen of bonner Springs, Kans., Bill and Schreck of Dedham, Tim Schreck of San Francisco, Calif., Cindy Schreck of Hiawatha, George and Kim Schreck of Adel, Joe and Corlyn Schreck of Kalamazoo, Mich., Mike and Anne Schreck of Cedar Falls and Ann Schreck of Hiawatha; a daughter-in-law, Gayle Schreck and her husband, Clay Smith of Urbandale; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six sisters: Margret Menner of Champaign, Ill., Sister Laura Schreck FSPA of La Crosse, Wis., Mary Ries of Omaha, Neb., Irene Schreck of New Berlin, Wis., Doris Bevandic and husband Art of Milwaukee, Wis,, and Annie Griffith and husband george of Riverside, Calif.; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Lawrence and Arlene Dentlinger of Arcadia, Al and Izzie Dentlinger of Westside, Martha Daniel of Lidderdale, Clara Friedman of Carroll, Joan and Bob Badding of Carroll and Elaine Dentlinger of Carroll.
Mr. Schreck was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Joe and Anna Dentlinger; two brothers: Alois and Robert L. Schreck; Four sisters: Minnie Klahs, Sister Rose Schreck FSPA, Bernice Liewer and Angela Walsh; a brother-in-law, Elmer Dentlinger; a son, John Schreck; and a daughter, Lisa Schreck in 1976.
