FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR WILLIAM PFEIFFER
The Rite of Christian burial were held Friday, July 15 for William Pfeiffer, 102, on Tuesday, July 12, 1994 at the Carroll Manor Nursing Home.
Reverend Father Gary Snyder was celebrant for the 10:00 Mass at the Annunciation Church in Coon Rapids.
Music was provided by the Annunciation Choir.
Interment was in Arlington Heights Cemetery, Audubon.
Serving as casket bearers were Gerald Haubrich, Ambrose Haubrich, Richard Yard, William Haubrich, Ronald Haubrich and Jim Friedrichson.
Honorary casket bearers were Joseph Haubrich and Clarence Haubrich.
WILLIAM CHARLES PFEIFFER
William, son of Frank and Mary Ann Baumgarner Pfeiffer, was born January 17, 1892 in Audubon County. He attended rural schools near his home. After completing his schooling he moved to South Dakota where he worked and did a lot of trapping.
On January 19, 1927 Bill was united in marriage with Ella Cerka. They farmed around Coon Rapids until 1943 when they moved into town. He worked for the City of Coon Rapids and continued to do a lot of hunting and trapping.
Ella died on August 8, 1957. Bill continued to live in Coon Rapids until his marriage to Frances Foster on May 28, 1963, after which they lived in Grinnell.
After Frances' death in November of 1987 Bill returned to Coon Rapids to live with his daughter, Ruth and her husband, Don Smouse.
Bill was a member of the Annunciation Parish in Coon Rapids. He had joined the Elks Lodge in 1922 while living in South Dakota and was currently a member of Lodge #1637 in Carroll. He was an avid sportsman throughout his life, enjoying hunting, fishing, and trapping.
In April of 1992 Bill entered the Carroll Manor Nursing Home. He enjoyed good health and his mind was sharp until shortly before his death at the nursing home on Tuesday, July 12, 1994 at the age of 102 years, five months and 25 days.
Besides his parents and wives he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Donald Smouse and by all of his brothers and sisters: Jerome Pfeiffer, Albert Pfeiffer, Arthur Pfeiffer, Joseph Pfeiffer, John Pfeiffer, George Pfeiffer, Leo Pfeiffer, Mary Haubrich, Margaret Dorr, Eva Shane, and Ida Pfeiffer.
Survivors include his daughter, Ruth Smouse, of Coon Rapids; a grandson, David Smouse and his wife, Pat, of Coon Rapids; two great-grandchildren: Joshua and Sara; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
NOTE: Poweshiek Co. Iowa marriage record for William Pfeiffer and Frances Foster gives his mother's maiden name as "Baumgartner"
