Mrs. Christina Louise Mandelkow passed away at her home on north Carroll street last Saturday, the 7th. The deceased has been in fairly good health until recently and her neighbors and friends were pained and surprised to learn of her departure from this life. The deceased, whose maiden name was Christina Budde, was born in Germany, at Bude, June 2, 1843, and was therefore in her 70th year of age. She came to america in her early youth and on March 4th 1866, was married to Charles Mandelkow who died fifteen years ago, on the ninth of this month lacking only two days of 15 years before the departure of the deceased. They came to Carroll County in 1874, settling in Grant township On the farm they were more than ordinarily successful and made a fine country home before coming to Carroll in 1895. Sence then the family has lived on north Carroll Street where the mother with her daughters have enjoyed the serene quiet that come after a life of unusual activities. There were 11 children born to Mr. and Mrs Mandelkow, five having died in infancy or early childhood. Those living; all daughters are, Louise, Mrs John Sieman; Lena, Mrs. William Onken, Anna; Mrs. Fred Kroeger, Ida; Mrs. H.F. Sievers, Minne; Mrs J.A. Kotas, Emma; Mrs J. H. Goodwin, all living in this vicinity of Carroll. She was highly respected by neighbors and friends who recongnized in her a woman of good heart and useful works. Mr. and Mrs. Mandelkow were for many years members of the Evangelical church and always lived honest, Christian lives.
