Death Calls Pioneer, 84, At Her Home

A Carroll pioneer, Mrs. Wilhelmina Florencourt, 84, died of a heart attack at 7:45 o'clock this morning at her home at 115 S. West Street after a lingering illness. Funeral services are set for Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock at SS. Peter & Paul's church, and burial will be in the parish cemetery. The body is resting at the Olerich funeral home, where the rosary will be prayed tonight, Sunday and Monday nights at 8 o'clock.

Pallbearers for the final rite will be W.T. Otto, Charles J. Loxterkamp, T.W. Happe, Henry Goodman, J.P. Meinhardt and Henry Underberg. Mrs. Florencourt was born June 27, 1867, at Duesseldorf, Germany, and was a daughter of Christian and Johanna Van Lueck. She came to Carroll 72 years ago in 1879. On May 16, 1886, she and the late Frank F. Florencourt were the first couple to be married in the then newly-constructed SS. Peter & Paul's Church, where Mrs. Florencourt was the first organist. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima No. 6, Catholic Daughters of America and the Carroll unit of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Her husband was a pioneer of Carroll County, editor of Der Demokrat in Carroll for many years and was founder and editor of the Germania German language publications. He died July 5, 1922. Mrs. Florencourt is survived by four children: W.T. Florencourt, Louise Florencourt, Anna B. Harrington, eight grandchildren: Mrs. Gerald Langton (Louise), New York City; Frank J. Harrington, Lake Forrest, Illinois; Mrs. William P. McLaughlin (Margaret), Sumerville, Mass.; Mrs. M.L. Caneschi, Meriden, Conn.; Mrs. Mann (Margaret), Louise Florencourt and Frances Florencourt, Arlington, Mass., and Mrs. Firth (Catherine), Boston, Mass., and great grandchildren.
