Old Tombstone is Found in
Bed of Nishnabotna Creek
~
MANNING, Ia. Aug. 29, - A tombstone and base has been found in the bed of the dry Nashabotna Creek at the north edge of Manning.

The heavy stone was embedded in the creek bottom. The inscription was clearly read. It said: At rest, Louis C. Perry, born April 25, 1853 and died April 18, 1886.

Census file of Manning during 1885 state that a person by that name was a grocery clerk in Manning at that time. In the same household was an Edward Perry, grocer. Thus it was possible that Louis Perry was a relative of the late E. C. Perry, prominent Manning citizen for many years. Jacob Carsten, city marshal, has removed the stone from the creek and is now in the rear of the fire station.
