Winnebago Indians Sighted Near Mt. Carmel,1874

I translated the following article from Der Carroll Demokrat, a German-language newspaper published in Carroll, Iowa, between about 1874 and 1920. It was originally published on Friday, 10 July 1874. Any information in brackets or notes at the end is my own explanation. It reads as follows:

Mt. Carmel.
Monday afternoon, the population of our little town was more than a little surprised by a caravan approaching us from the west. Upon close inspection and through inquiries, we learned that they were Winnebago Indians, 75 in number, with 22 ponies. They had come from Nebraska and their temporary destination was Marshalltown.
