I translated the following biography from Der Carroll Demokrat, a German-language newspaper published in Carroll, Iowa, between about 1874 and 1920. It was originally published in a special 25th Anniversary Edition of the paper on Friday, 20 September 1899. Words in quotations are original. Any information in brackets or notes at the end are my own explanations. It reads as follows:

Peter Eischeid

Mr. Eischeid was born in La Salle County, Illinois. In 1873 his parents moved to Carroll County, Iowa, where they settled on a farm in Roselle Township. Mr. Eischeid spent his youth there. He married Miss Maria Meischeid, a well-brought-up young woman, on 10 October 1887, and this marriage produced seven children. In 1889 Mr. Eischeid purchased the 109-acre Schulte farm, then he purchased the 240-acre Steigerwald farm, and in 1898 he traded his land for the well-known Hölker [Hoelker] business and buildings in the small town of Halbur, which Mr. Eischeid then successfully operated. The business consists of groceries, clothing, textiles and notions, as well as shoes, and it has always enjoyed the best customer support because of its honesty and the quality and reasonable prices of its goods. Mr. Eischeid is a very friendly man who has worked to keep his business at the same high level of quality as it had been previously, and so he is bound to succeed. In any case, he must be regarded as a hard-working man, because from his small beginning he has gradually risen, and today he has a business which can measure up to any finer business in its size and variety of goods.
