I translated the following biography from Der Carroll Demokrat, a German-language newspaper published in Carroll, Iowa, between about 1874 and 1920. It was originally published in a special 25th Anniversary Edition of the paper on Friday, 20 September 1899. Any information in brackets or notes at the end are my own explanations. It reads as follows:

Arnold Kröger [Kroeger]

Mr. Kröger was born on 27 August 1858 in Dinklage, Grand Duchy of Oldenburg. When he was released from school, he took up farming and worked on various farms in the area. In 1877, he became a soldier and served with the 91st Infantry Regiment, which was garrisoned in Oldenburg. After he received training, the Second Battalion was transferred with the other occupation troops to Toul, in France. In 1880, Mr. Kröger was honorably discharged as a soldier, and he then immigrated to America. He first went to New Vienna, Iowa, where he worked for farmers for five years. Then he made his way to Roselle Township, Carroll County, where he worked with a farmer for another year. On 23 February 1886, Mr. Kröger married the respected Miss Anna Riesberg, and then the young couple purchased a 160-acre farm in Eden Township. Mr. Arnold Kröger is a progressive farmer, and he is popular and respected among all his acquaintances in the whole township. This happy marriage has produced six children, named: Josephina, Antonelli, Katharina, Mathilda, Joseph, and Louise.
