I translated the following biography from Der Carroll Demokrat, a German-language newspaper published in Carroll, Iowa, between about 1874 and 1920. It was originally published in a special 25th Anniversary Edition of the paper on Friday, 20 September 1899. Information in brackets and notes at the end are my own explanations. It reads as follows:

Clemens Schulte

This man was born in Lengerich, Province of Hanover, on the 4th of February, 1849. Until he was 10 years old, he attended school in his little hometown, and then his parents and their children immigrated to America. They settled first in Potosi, Grant County, Wisconsin, There, Clemens Schulte attended school until he was 17 years old, and then he learned hands-on the skill of farming, and worked for three years on a farm near Sterling, Illinois. He then worked at various other jobs, and for a period of 10 years, he worked in various states of the Union, including Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Colorado, and Iowa. On the 15th of January, 1879, he married Miss Elisabeth M. Determann, and then he and his young wife moved to a 100-acre farm which he had purchased earlier in Viola Township, Sac County, Iowa. That he was a hard-working and capable farmer is shown by the fact that, by 1883, he was able to increase his real estate by 120 acres. He retired from farming in 1893. He purchased 15 acres within the city limits of the town of Breda, where he has resided with his family ever since. This happy marriage has produced 10 children, of which two are deceased. The names of the children still living are: Anna M., Clemens B., Leo F., Sophia K., Rosa M., Elisabeth M., Sara M., and Susanna M.
