I translated the following biography from Der Carroll Demokrat, a German-language newspaper published in Carroll, Iowa, between about 1874 and 1920. It was originally published in a special 25th Anniversary Edition of the paper on Friday, 20 September 1899. Information in brackets and notes at the end are my own explanations. It reads as follows:

A. C. Blohm

The subject of our present description has lived for several years in Carroll and enjoys the respect of all German-Americans. Mr. Blohm was born in Germany and came to America as a seven-year-old boy. When he moved to Carroll, he took over the Palace Meat Market, which is located on Main Street across from the courthouse, and which is one of the finest stores in town. The interior is elegantly furnished, equipped with a patent refrigerator; everything is clean and tidy and invites the visitor in to make his selection. Mr. Blohm’s clientele is very widespread, and since he is so obliging and friendly, and always keeps good and tender meat on hand, his customers increase every day. In the appropriate season, he has tender venison, as well as fresh fish, fine sausage, and good lard. Mr. Blohm is an experienced master butcher and did not move to Carroll temporarily, but to remain permanently, and so he has earned the support of all the residents of Carroll.
