Thanks for the responce. I am almost sure my William Moore did not own land. He probably was farming for someone in the area. He was from Monmouth Il. I don't know when he came to IA. I think one of his daughters married a Russell in Ia.
Would there be any type of school records or voting records for the Elm Grove area?
All that I can say for sure is that the 1880 census shows William his wife Sarah J. and five children living in Elm Grove, Calhoun, Iowa. A 1898 will shows the children living in various towns in Ia.
